Various Jobs | Practical Action

Practical Action is an International NGO, with Head Office in the UK and working in South Asia, Southern and East Africa and Latin America. It works to alleviate poverty through the development and use of appropriate technologies by the communities, demonstrating results, sharing knowledge, building capacity to replicate and influencing others for scaling up. Practical Action seeks to achieve this by implementing work under four International Aims: (i) Reducing Vulnerability; (ii) Making Markets Work for the Poor; (iii) Improving Access to Infrastructure Services and (iv) Responding to New Technologies

Practical Action Sudan seeks experienced and qualified personnel to fill in following posts


Post (1): Deputy Country Director

Station: Khartoum
Report to: Country Director
Salary Grade: A3 SDG 100870 (14 months) annual gross salary plus other perks.

Job purpose
To undertake the overall management and delivery of contracts and provision of technical support to programs.

Personal specifications
Extensive knowledge and experience of voluntary work, specifically in development
Knowledge of NGO norms and practices
Significant experience of staff management, project formulation and design, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation
Specific knowledge and experience of implementing impact oriented sustainable programs

Technical competencies
A university Degree in relevant field. Post graduate degree is an advantage
15 years development experience at least 10 years with INGOs
Fluent in written and spoken English and Arabic languages
University degree in a relevant field, preferably development studies. A post graduate in a relevant field is an advantage

Responsibilities
Line manage the Area Coordinators and Program leaders
Overall management of the strategy development and implementation
Support program leaders in the development of new programs
Supervise and provide necessary technical and managerial assistance to Area Coordinators and program leaders
Ensures Area Coordinators are fulfilling their responsibility for overall timeliness and quality of delivery of all Area Office project activities and contract compliance
Holds final responsibility for all donor reporting ensuring the timely delivery of high quality reports to donors through the Quality Assurance and Fundraising Manager
Oversees the successful completion of detailed project and Area program budgeting by Area Coordinators
Assist in building effective national partnerships for field programs
Coordinate with QA, PLs and fundraising to ensure their proper assistance to programs is delivered at the appropriate time


Post (2) Human Resources Manger

Station: Khartoum
Report to: Country Director
Salary Grade: A2 SDG 81354 (14 months) annual gross salary plus other perks.

Job purpose
To undertake proper planning, recruitment, induction and development of the human resources of the organization including the development and management of proper personnel polices and procedures

Personal specifications
Extensive knowledge of trends and developments within HR, especially performance management, management development and training, resourcing and reward
Significant experience in a range of HR activities at a senior level of NGO norms and practices.

Technical competencies
A University degree preferably on business administration or relevant field. Post graduate degree in Human resource management is an advantage
Computer knowledge specifically word and spread sheet
Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic languages
At least 10 years experience in HR management. NGO experience is an advantage

Responsibilities
To functionally and line manage unit staff
To provide a support and advice structure for Directors and Managers in the management of their staff, including grievance and disciplinary processes
To lead the development, review and implementation of policies, procedures and good practice within Practical Action
To provide guidance and support to managers in carrying out the performance management process
To plan for and undertake recruitment including preparation and sinage of contracts
Manage staff personal flies and ensure all necessary documents are available
To maintain the integrity and relevance of grading, reward and benefit policies and processes
Develop and implement an effective human resource development plan by compiling training recommended in staff appraisals
Undertake an annual “weather checks staff survey, share the results widely and work with the organization management to respond to its recommendations

Post (3) Impact and Practice Manager

Station : Khartoum
Report to: Country Director
Salary Grade: A2 SDG 81354 (14 months) annual gross salary plus other perks

Job purpose
To ensure country programs are managed to high standards of excellence and quality their impacts on people’s lives and livelihoods are determined, recorded and communicated and shared locally and internationally.

Technical competences
University degree in social sciences, preferably development studies or in any other relevant field. Post graduate degree is an advantage
12 years development experience, at least 10 years of which are with INGOs
Fluent written and spoken Arabic and English languages
Good computer skills (office applications)
Good communication skills

Major job tasks
The overall management of the unit that include managing knowledge and communication, policy, M&E and fundraising
To assess the progress, quality and impact of all local projects and programs.
Manage the Annual project and strategy Review process
Ensure that all projects generate clearly defined knowledge products on the basis of lessons from experience, supporting project and program staff in the synthesis of lessons learned from their work
Enable project and program staff to establish effective monitoring and evaluation systems
Assist program staff on undertaking internal and external evaluations of their project and program work and ensure that the recommendations of evaluations are acted upon
Assist program staff in identifying policy issues, conducting policy research and undertake necessary actions for an enabling environment that work for the poor
Coordinate with Area Coordinators and Team Leaders on Issues related to impact, policy and QA as specified in this job description
Manage the delivery of annual project/programs and strategic reviews and unit business plans.
Assist program staff and coordination with the DCD ensure proposals developed are of high quality and in line with donor requirement
