Purpose of the Post
Under the guidance of the Nutrition Specialist, the incumbent will be responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of assigned project(s) within the Nutrition sector

Major Duties & Responsibilities
Contributes towards the preparation of the Situation Analysis by compiling data, analyzing and evaluating information, and writing chapters of the Analysis
Designs, prepares, implements, monitors and evaluates Micronutrient project(s) and other preventive nutrition work. Analyzes and evaluates data to ensure achievement of objectives and/or takes corrective action when necessary to meet program/project objectives. Lobby with government on the legislation to ban us and marketing of non- iodized salt and immediate enforcement of laws banning the marketing of un-iodized salt for human consumption and food fortification interventions, countrywide and laws banning the marketing of breast milk substitutes
Overseeing UNICEF support to salt companies and community sensitization, mobilization and awareness raising
Participates in inter-sectoral collaboration with other program colleagues. Assists in development of appropriate communication and information strategy to support and advocate to government on all micronutrient control program including the elimination of tax on salt and all products related to salt iodization
Undertakes field visits to monitor programs and provide support to UNICEF and government state level representatives, as well as conducts periodic program reviews with government counterparts and other partners. Proposes and/or undertakes action on operational procedures affecting nutrition program especially micronutrient project management implementation. Provides technical advice and assistance to government officials and other partners in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of program/project(s)i
Meets with national and international agencies covering the management of projects. Participates in meetings with ministries responsible for project review, and follows up on implementation of recommendations and agreements
Assists government authorities in planning and organizing training programs identifies training needs and objectives for the purpose of capacity building, program sustainability, as well as promotion and advocacy. Set minimum quality standards for Salt iodization
Coordinates with the Operations/Supply staff on micronutrient supply and non-supply assistance activities ensuring proper and timely UNICEF and government accountability. Certifies disbursements of funds, monitors and submits financial status reports to the Sr. Program Officer or Representative, as required
Participates in the development of the sectoral workplan, ensures the achievement of specific Micronutrient and preventative nutrition program specific objectives are incorporated. Provides guidance and support to staff in meeting pr objectives
Assist the emergency nutrition program implementation at federal level through the support to guideline development, supply issues and providing technical support to field teams
Prepares program/project status reports required for management, Board, donors, budget review, program analysis, annual reports, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
Advanced university degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas
Public Health & Nutrition, Health Sciences, International Health & Nutrition, Family Health & Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, Health & Nutrition
Education, Health & Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention, Public Health, Health Emergency Preparedness, or other relevant discipline(s)i
Training in gender and in nutrition programs that promote gender equality an asset
Five years of relevant professional work experience
Developing field work experience
Background/ familiarity with Emergency
Experience in monitoring gender inequalities and in programming interventions that reduce these inequalities an assets
Fluency in both English & Arabic languages
